Day 32 and my weight is now at 159.5 lbs. Not bad I think and I'm not starving. Today I want to talk a little about the food. Throughout the Internet I've read other reviews where the taste of food ranges from horrid to excellent. I believe the taste of food is subjective, a lot like art. One man's gourmet is another man's junk. My feelings, some of it is not bad. I wouldn't call it excellent; I saw one comment where the person said, "Are you kidding about excellent? Filet Mignon is excellent, Lobster is excellent..." I have to agree. I guess it depends on what you're used to. I've had both, so in my opinion, the food is doable. The beauty is, because I'm on the month plan, I can pick and choose what foods I get. Actually right from the very start I was able to choose what food I wanted. This is a little hard as I hadn't tasted any of the food prior to ordering but I tried to pick what I thought I would like. After a month on the plan, well I definitely have my favorites and the food I will probably not order again...ever. In my defense or maybe disclaimer, I've had my share of tv dinners and similar so maybe my taste isn't as selective. However, I don't think this diet was designed for this purpose. I mean really, it still has to be affordable to the mass and if it was more expensive, perhaps I wouldn't have purchased this diet. I enjoyed the pizza, more on the way, the chicken salads and the beef teriyaki. Granted some of the food doesn't look appetizing at all but the taste was there, very flavorful. For example, the beef teriyaki with noodles, doesn't really look like what's on the package but I did like it. I ordered more along with the pizza. Now NS has several different kinds of pizzas, Flatbread Italian, Thick Crust and Sourdough Bread, and I'll be sampling the latter two. Perhaps what I can do next time is to post pictures of some of the food.
On to the desserts. Yes, you get to have chocolate cake, is it Duncan Hines®, no, but the desserts are designed to be a little healthier. Added fiber and the likes makes it more dense but it wasn't bad. Moist but not light and moist more like thick and moist if that makes any sense. They have a chocolate bar that reminds me of a Snickers Bar® which isn't too bad, I did order more, the chocolate doesn't taste the same, can't put my finger on it yet why but it's doable. It does give you the feeling that you're eating a candy bar. The other favorite of mine was the White Cheddar Soy Chips, nice substitute for potato chips, in my opinion. However, as I stated in my previous post I scaled back on the soy chips because of the soy. I had originally ordered 10. My all-time favorite is the Thin Mint Crisp Bar. Now this is good, and has 8g of protein and 4g of fiber, and that what makes it different from just a regular candy bar. Now pizza for dinner and the thin mint for dessert, I'm a happy camper!!! Life is good and I'll still lose weight.
Now the downsize but not really, the portions are on the small size but isn't that the intended purpose? If you ate 3 or 4 of the pizzas doesn't that defeat the purpose of losing weight? Isn't this why you had to order this diet in the first place, because you did eat 3 or 4 pizzas? Lol, I just keep that in mind and forge on. You have your portion and you must supplement with your fruit and veggies. I do have more energy that I started with and generally feel better. I'm determined to lose this weight and thus, I forge on.
Breakfast isn't too bad. The hard part for me is that breakfast used to consist of not much more than coffee and maybe toast or a breakfast burrito on the occassion. Now, I must actually eat a real breakfast; which now consists of a blueberry muffin, or oatmeal with blueberries and my favorite the apple cinnamon scone to name a few. Dense but good.
So as you can see, I'm good with the food. Even some of the choices I've made that I didn't like, I ate knowing this would be the last time and I just went online and changed the selection. For me, it's all about the commitment and my determination to lose the weight. Is it excellent food, I wouldn't use that adjective, but it's good. I like the fact that there is no calorie counting, no real weighing or trying to figure out the portions of the main course, that is all taken care of for me. Very easy to follow.
